Permit holders are responsible for following all Colby College parking rules and regulations. Violators are subject to fines and/or towing at the owner’s expense. Students who repeatedly violate parking rules or receive an excess number of tickets may be referred to the student discipline process.
Handicapped/Accessible parking spaces are available throughout campus with a valid handicapped placard or license plate.
Visitor parking is available in designated spaces throughout campus. Overnight guest parking must be registered through Campus Security.
EV Charging is available on campus, with 3 chargers (6 plugs) in the Athletics lot, 3 chargers (6 plugs) in the Lunder lot, and 2 chargers (4 plugs) in the South lot.
Please read all rules and regulations and see the Colby College Parking map for additional details.
Parking Rules and Regulations
Parking at Bill and Joan Alfond Main Street Commons
Residents are allocated one parking space per apartment in the Appleton Street lot. These parking hangtags are separate from parking permits and may be obtained from Campus Life. All residents who have a vehicle will still need to purchase a parking permit (commuter) to be able to park their vehicles on campus.
The City of Waterville has separate parking ordinances. Students are required to follow ordinances and signage as good community members. Serious violations may also incur student conduct consequences.
Students shall not park in the Concourse from 7:00am-7:00pm Monday through Saturday to allow local businesses to serve their customers. Parking is available in the Head of Falls lot.
Permits
All student, staff, and faculty vehicles must be registered and display a valid parking permit. Permits follow the academic year and must be renewed annually. Each permit is assigned to a specific lot (such as Hillside) or a lot designation for staff, faculty, or commuters. Vehicles parked outside their authorized lot may be ticketed or towed. Parking permits are not transferable to other individuals. Permits shall be mounted on the left side of the rear window, INSIDE for staff and faculty and OUTSIDE for student parking permits. If you change vehicles or license plates, please email [email protected] to update your registration.
Fire Lanes/Emergency Access
All roadways on campus are considered fire lanes and must be kept clear at all times. Vehicles may not block access routes or interfere with the normal flow of traffic.
Handicapped and Accessible parking
Handicapped parking spaces are available throughout campus. Only those with valid placards or license plates may use these spaces. Temporary accommodations may be available for employees through Human Resources and for students through Access and Disability Services or Athletic Training.
Rules of the Road and Signage
Driving or parking off designated roadways, including lawns, walkways or bike paths is strictly prohibited. All campus traffic signs must be obeyed. Reckless driving, speeding or impeding the normal flow of traffic will not be tolerated.
Fines, Towing and Loss of Parking Privileges
Vehicles parked without authorization or in violation of campus parking rules may be ticketed, towed at the owner’s expense or both. Serious violations, such as parking in fire lanes, accessible spaces or repeated violations may carry higher fines. Those who accumulate multiple tickets may be towed and/or lose parking privileges. Tickets may be appealed according to instructions on the ticket or in the accompanying email. If student tickets are not paid in a timely manner, they will revert to student accounts.
Vehicle Safety and Liability
Colby College is not responsible for any damage to, or theft from, vehicles parked on campus. Vehicles are parked at the owner’s risk. To help protect your belongings, always lock your car, avoid leaving valuables in plain sight, secure items in the trunk if necessary, and keep your keys with you rather than hiding them on the vehicle. Be aware of your surroundings when entering or leaving your vehicle, and contact Security if you ever feel unsafe. Parking lots have some camera surveillance and blue light kiosks for your safety.
Accidents on Campus
Motor vehicle accidents on campus must be reported in a timely manner. Campus Security and Waterville Police Department work together for reporting. Please call Campus Safety to report an accident immediately.
