Colby Health Services provides health education, quality health care, and preventative services to Colby students. We are advocates for the life-long health and wellness of our community. Our medical practitioners offer a wide range of services to address medical concerns. You should feel comfortable talking about any issues you have with our staff—they are trained to handle these issues professionally and confidentially. The team includes physicians, a psychiatrist, registered nurses, medical assistants, and a patient service representative. If you are sick or injured, an appointment can usually be scheduled within 24 hours. Quality health care depends on providers’ and patients’ knowledge about their rights and areas of accountability. Chaperones for Physical Exams: Patients may request to have a chaperone (another staff member) present during their physical exam.  If you would like a chaperone at any time during your exam, please let our staff know.

Our practice offers a broad range of testing services, some of which can be performed in-house. Our staff are courteous and professional and will hold your information in the utmost confidence. All of our testing services are confidential, although some tests require further reporting to state and federal agencies.  Practitioners can order additional diagnostic tests, which are performed at MaineGeneral Hospital in Waterville. These tests include, but are not limited to:

  • X-ray
  • Ultrasound/CT scan
  • MRI
  • Bone density
  • EKG

The staff at Health Services realize the importance of healthy eating and exercise. Not only will proper nutrition and frequent exercise make your body feel better, but they will also help you perform better in your studies. Eating well can be difficult among the stresses of academic work, sports, activities, and an active social life, but a proper diet will help you to excel in all of these areas. Health Services can help students find a dietician in the local Waterville area for nutrition related care. 

Oakland Pharmacy provides medication delivery service to Colby College. Any prescription can be filled through Oakland Pharmacy, including all prescriptions ordered by staff at Health Services. For delivery of monthly maintenance medications previously filled at another pharmacy, contact Oakland Pharmacy. They can have your prescription transferred and delivered to campus for your convenience. Call Oakland Pharmacy at 207-465-4440  for more information, or visit their website.

A variety of free, self-care medications are available in the health center entrance. We also offer free condoms and dental dams in the health center. Before using any of these products, check all product warnings. The Colby Bookstore carries a variety of over-the-counter medications and first-aid supplies.

We offer orthopedic assessment evaluations as well as referrals to our sports medicine department for sports related injuries. Physical Therapy services are available on campus and referrals for this are available through Health Services.

Many students  travel abroad while at Colby College. Health Services provides information and immunization recommendations to prepare students for healthy and safe travel. To schedule an appointment, call 207-859-4460. All appointments should be made 4-6 weeks prior to the due date of your paperwork. You should bring any vaccination records that you may have from previous travel to your consultation.

Making an Appointment

Cancelling and Rescheduling Appointments

Cancellations and reschedules can be made by phone or by emailing the Health Center. We request that you notify the clinic 24 hours in advance, when possible. This opens your appointment time to other students.

Referring a Student for an Appointment

While we are happy to assist concerned others (parents, faculty/staff, peers) with referring a student to Health Services, we require students to contact us directly to schedule their own appointments.
