Now introducing MaineGeneral College Health: a program of MaineGeneral Medical Center (MGMC) that provides healthcare, health education, and preventative services to Colby College students. The clinic is staffed by resident doctors from the Maine Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency Program (MDFMR).

We are your medical home away from home—providing the same great care in an expanded setting.

Where do I go?

While we still offer limited services at the existing Garrison-Foster location, the Thayer center will be home to students’ acute, preventive, and continuing medical care.

Health Services Offered:

  • Physical exams
  • Obstetric and gynecological exams, including pap smears and pelvic exams
  • Travel health consultations, including:
    • Physical exam
    • Vaccine review and recommendations. Most needed vaccines can be ordered through MaineGeneral College Health 
    • Prophylactic medication prescription and review (malaria prophylaxis, traveler’s diarrhea, etc.)
  • Injury evaluation and treatment
  • Illness evaluation and treatment, including acute illnesses, such as ear infections, strep throat, and UTIs.
  • Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) screening and treatment
  • Contraception, including prescribing and consultation for the following:
    • Emergency contraception
    • Implant (NEXPLANON®)
    • Intrauterine Device or IUD (Mirena®, Kyleena®, etc.)
    • Oral contraceptive pills
    • Contraceptive patches
    • Contraceptive ring (NuvaRing®)
  • Gender-affirming care, including hormone therapy
  • Referral for diagnostic testing, including labs, imaging, and other testing, as well as specialist evaluation

We offer a broad range of testing services at the Thayer Center for Health. All of our testing services are confidential, although some tests require further reporting to state and federal agencies. These tests include, but are not limited to:

  • Blood tests
  • X-ray
  • Ultrasound/CT scan
  • MRI
  • Bone density
  • EKG
  • Mental health evaluation and treatment (including anxiety, depression, and ADHD/ADD)

We offer non-operative orthopedic and concussion management as well as referrals to our Sports Medicine Department for sports-related injuries. Physical Therapy services are available on campus, and referrals for this are available through MaineGeneral College Health.

Oakland Pharmacy provides medication delivery service to the Colby College campus. Any prescription can be filled through Oakland Pharmacy, including all prescriptions ordered by staff at the clinic. 


For delivery of monthly maintenance medications previously filled at another pharmacy, contact Oakland Pharmacy, which can transfer and deliver your prescription transferred and delivered to campus for your convenience. A variety of free, self-care medications are available in the health center entrance. The Colby Bookstore also carries a variety of over-the-counter medications and first-aid supplies.

To Thayer

The Thayer Center for Health is located just off of North Street near the entrance to the Quarry Road Trails, less than one mile down the road from Colby’s campus.

Driving, Walking, or Biking

From the athletic fields traffic circle, travel down the North Street hill about .7 miles. The Thayer Center for Health will be on your left. Pass the complex and take the next left on Eustis Parkway. At the large MaineGeneral sign, turn left and follow the signs to patient parking. Walk in through the main entrance and follow the signs to the MaineGeneral College Health Clinic located on the second floor. 

Colby Shuttle and Jitney Service

Making it to your appointment on time is important. To ensure you’re not late, schedule a ride with the Jitney or take a shuttle.

The Jitney

The Colby Jitney is a free shuttle service available to all students. You can schedule a ride with the Jitney by signing up on the Colby Go! app.

  • The pickup location is in the Roberts parking lot, by Grossman (DavisConnects).
  • To schedule a pick-up, call Colby Security at 207-859-5530 the day before your appointment.
  • Jitney appointments should be made at least 24 hours in advance to ensure you make it to your appointment on time.
  • To accommodate students returning to campus after their appointments, a Colby shuttle stop has been designated at the main entrance to MaineGeneral College Health – the same place you were dropped off.

Colby Shuttle

Colby campus’ North Street shuttle makes regular stops at Thayer. Download the Colby Go! app for access to Colby’s full shuttle schedule and track their locations.

  • There are two shuttles operating during the day. Both leave the Pugh Center and go to Alfond Commons. However, only the North Street shuttle stops at MaineGeneral College Health.
  • If you use the shuttle to go to your appointment, ask the driver if they are going to the hospital. It’ll take 15-20 minutes to take you to MaineGeneral, so keep this in mind and plan ahead.

Canceling and Rescheduling Appointments
Appointments can be canceled and rescheduled by calling the clinic at 207-861-6860. Please give a 24-hour advance notice, when possible. 

Referring a Student for an Appointment
MaineGeneral is happy to talk with concerned others (parents, faculty/staff, peers) about its services, but they require students to contact them directly to schedule their own appointments.

After-Hours Care

Emergency Medical Care

For medical emergencies on campus, call 207-859-5911 to be connected with a campus safety dispatcher 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Non-Urgent Medical Care

Call MaineGeneral College Health at 207-861-6860 to schedule an appointment with a provider or to speak with a nurse.

After-Hours Medical Care

Students seeking care during evenings or weekends are encouraged to visit MaineGeneral Express Care. Students should inform their provider that they are a Colby student so their records can be sent to MaineGeneral College Health.
