All Colby students are required to have health insurance that provides comprehensive medical coverage in the State of Maine. Even with comprehensive coverage, many health insurance plans still involve some cost-sharing mechanisms, such as copays, coinsurance, and/or deductibles, that students need to contribute out-of-pocket toward the costs of their medical care. (Learn more from this resource about Paying for Your Healthcare.)

After your appointment at MaineGeneral College Health, you will receive a medical bill in the mail. On your bill, you will see how much of the costs were covered by your health insurance plan, and what amount is remaining for you to contribute.

Every year, all Colby students are required to either waive or enroll in Colby’s Student Health Insurance Plan, ‘Wellfleet’. About one-third of Colby students enroll in Wellfleet. The rest waive Wellfleet by submitting documentation of their own comprehensive health insurance coverage (such as coverage through a family health insurance plan).

To learn more about Wellfleet, health insurance terms, and considerations for comparing plans, please see this Health Insurance 101 Resource. If you are enrolled in Wellfleet, you may view your insurance card and your medical claims by Logging into Your Account

  • Special Situations for Wellfleet Students: If Wellfleet asks you to complete an Accident / Injury Form, to provide additional details about the medical care you received, please follow those instructions. If you will be traveling aboard, and need to bring extra medication, here is information about Wellfleet’s Travel Override process for extended prescriptions.
