Please introduce yourself and briefly describe the nature of your work and your partnership with Colby.
My name is Jo Horn. I am the Volunteer Coordinator for MaineGeneral Health (MGH). It is my job to recruit, interview, place, manage, recognize and retain volunteers for the organization.
We currently have approximately 180 active volunteers across the organization. I worked with Colby volunteers years ago, when I was the Executive Director for Rape Crisis Assistance and Prevention (RCAP) there in Waterville. Since I started in Volunteer Services here at MGH, I have worked with Colby volunteers who mostly volunteer at the Thayer Center for Health (TCH), MaineGeneral’s Hospital in Waterville. Currently, we have 15 active Colby student volunteers; we also have 9 students at various stages of the onboarding process.
How do you feel Colby students contribute to the mission and goals of Maine General Health?
Colby students support and enhance the service of MGH’s personnel and contribute directly to the patients’ welfare. We couldn’t do what we do without our volunteers, especially in Waterville, Colby students play an essential role in helping us in our efforts to be the leading regional healthcare system in Maine.
What’s the most important thing you’d like the college to hear from you?
I appreciate Colby College’s commitment to the greater Waterville community! Colby is such an important community partner!
