Can you please share a story or experience of a time you worked with a Colby student?

My favorite CCAK moment was when I paired a mentee who had been asking for many years for a mentor.  He had seen how mentors affected his classmates and older siblings and yearned for that same relationship with someone.  The first moment he met his new mentor, he hugged me so tight, and for so long, as the tears of joy streamed down his face.  It was so powerful, his mentor who has never met him before that moment, was tearful and so was I!  We saw and felt the pure joy from him and learned for certain how important these relationships truly are.

What is your favorite thing about the Greater Waterville area? What do you wish Colby students knew about your community?

I love how our community is so intertwined.  We do not operate in isolation and our success comes from our community partnerships.  I want CCAK students to know we are here to support, problem-solve and be flexible.  We want these relationships to be easy and not a burden.

How do you feel Colby students contribute to the mission and goals of your school?

We believe community involvement helps reinforce the lessons learned within our walls.  CCAK mentors have become a part of the fabric of our school culture.  We know all learning is based in relationship and this partnership helps ensure our students continue to learn and grow.

The relationships established through CCAK have such a positive, lasting impact for both the mentor and the mentee and could not be created through any other intervention.  It is so very important this program is maintained and continues to grow to have the biggest impact possible.
