More Information

When arriving on campus, please prioritize the check-in process to ensure you receive your residence hall key(s) and any additional information necessary for a smooth and efficient process.

Students must first check-in with the College prior to moving into their fall assignment. All students will be required to provide their student ID at check-in.

All students residing in off-campus housing (College owned or student-leased) are still required to check-in on the dates/times listed above.

Students are strongly encouraged to arrive within the designated times above to ensure all aspects of check-in can occur efficiently and effectively. We understand that some students might face extenuating circumstances preventing this. Only those students with extenuating circumstances or traveling via late-night Colby shuttle may check in with Security in the Security Office located on the first floor of Roberts Hall.

Please note that as Security provides multiple services to support community member needs, late arrival check-in processes may face delays depending on the Security Office’s immediate priorities and responsibilities.

Unfortunately, due to the significant processes required to prepare the College for student arrival and the fall semester, the College is not accepting requests for early arrival. Only students who are sponsored for fall pre-season athletics, designated student leader position training, or Pre-Orientation participants will be approved for on-campus housing prior to move-in.

Students, families, and support persons must determine what possible options and alternatives might exist outside of arriving early on campus. This includes altering travel arrangements, seeking hotel accommodations/AirBnB, etc.

Colby College and the Office of Residential Experience will once again offer transportation shuttles from Portland to campus for the fall semester. Shuttle spaces are reserved for students only.

First-Year Students:

First-Year students will receive information about shuttles, including the registration link, through the Colby News from the Trail email newsletter.

Returning Students:

Returning students may visit Colby’s transportation website for shuttle registration. Please note the publicized deadlines for registration.

Students must use their name and box number when sending packages and letter mail to Colby. Please see Colby Mail and Package Services for instructions to ship items to campus before arrival.

During arrival, package pick up will be in the field house of the Harold Alfond Athletic Center. When a package arrives for a student an auto-generated email will be sent to the student’s Colby email address with information about the package and the location where it can be picked up. Students must have a Colby Card or valid photo ID with them when picking up packages.

All packages and letter mail can be picked up in the fieldhouse between Monday-Friday: 8:00AM to 4:30PM.

Questions regarding packages and mail delivery should be directed to Mail Services at [email protected] or 207-859-4050.

Please view our Student Packing Guide for what to bring and what to leave at home.

Colby College has storage rooms located in several of the residence halls across campus. These spaces are known as Trunk Rooms and are only utilized for storage when students study abroad, and/or at the end of the academic year (over the summer).

All items must be removed by the second Thursday following the start of the Fall Semester (September 17, 2026). Any items remaining in trunk rooms after this date (with the exception of those with prior approval, such as study abroad and leave of absence status) will be removed and discarded without notice.

There will be staffing available to help support students with access to trunk rooms on September 7 and September 8. We ask for your patience as Community Advisors work to provide support in accessing trunk room spaces for students throughout returning student arrival. Designated dates and hours will be provided at the time of check-in.

Online parking permit registration will be available in August through the Colby College Security website.  All student vehicles on campus are required to have a parking permit. There is limited student parking on campus. Complete details will be emailed the week prior to registration opening.

Each year, Colby College publishes key dates for the academic calendar. The 2026-2027 academic year dates can be found here.

Important housing-related dates for students can be found here.
